Hello all. Long time no...type? Anyway, I thought I'd do one big update to tell you all how life is going. Hopefully it will be a big post as those are very impressive and fun to read....sort of. Anyway, the run of my first official Augie show is over. True West was a success, in my opinion. (Boo to all of you who didn't come, but kisses and hugs to those who came.) College is hard at Augie. I am having a blast, but it is hard as hell. Quantitative Reasoning, my math class, has become the bane of my existence. Acting is fun, but tons of work. Stage Makeup is tons of fun, even though I'm not at professional quality yet. LOL. Religion is a very interesting class. We have some atheists in there, and it's interesting to hear there point of view on things. (Yes, there are atheists at Augie. There are also tons of liberals, with some of the not-so-important conservatives in there too.) My english 200 class has to be one of my favorite classes. It is called Literary Experience: A Genre Approach. We just finished up our poetry unit. My professor's name is Patrick Hicks. He reminds me of a combination of Mrs. Votaw and Mrs. Benz. I miss those two. It's a tough class, but it's so much fun analyzing the poetry. On monday, I have a 5-7 page paper due, in which I must analyze one of the many poems we read for class. Here is the poem I am analyzing. It's so good, I thought I would share it with my readers. (see bottom of page for poem. I am almost looking forward to finishing my paper. Our next unit is the short stories unit. Fun fun fun. I can't wait until our drama unit. We are going to be reading Translations and Burn This.
As far as theatre goes, I couldn't be happier. I was props master for the first show. I was asked to be spotlight at coronation, which was cool. I am a spotlight operator for the Viking Varieties. (A big, broadwayish talent show. It's very cool.) That has me at the Orpheum downtown everynight this week from 6-10. However, today, I will be there from 3-10. I am going to put in some more shop hours. Performance of Varieties will be this weekend. If you are interested, contact me, and I'll let you know how to get a hold of some tickets. On Monday, we start rehearsal for You Can't Take It With You. I am looking forward to it, as I haven't been on stage, it seems, for ages. I will be playing Mr. Kolenkhov, a fun, loveable Russian. It's going to be a blast. We have already started platforming the entire stage for the show. It's going to be an awesome set.
More new news. I am going to New York City again! I leave the 21st of October at 1PM! Every year, our theatre department goes off to some large city just for the sole purpose of seeing shows. In New York, we are thinking of going, as a group, to either Fiddler on the Roof, with Harvey Firestein (the deep-voiced gay Jewish man from Hairspray) and Rosie O'Donnell (the fun-loving lesbian), or we might see Sweet Charity, with Christina Applegate. (I am hoping for Fiddler on the Roof. I am really excited for this trip. It's going to be tons of fun. I love that city.
Well, fellow readers, I dont' know what else to say to update you. Life is going very well, although it may be a little stressful at time, trying to balance theatre and classes. If you have any questions for me about college life or just want more details on Varieties, or just how I've been doing, just reply and I'll answer your question promptly. Love and hugs!
In Westminster Abbey
Let me take this other glove off
As the vox humana swells,
And the beauteous fields of Eden
Bask beneath the Abbey bells.
Here, where England's statesmen lie,
Listen to a lady's cry.
Gracious Lord, oh bomb the Germans.
Spare their women for Thy Sake,
And if that is not too easy
We will pardon Thy Mistake.
But, gracious Lord, whate'er shall be,
Don't let anyone bomb me.
Keep our Empire undismembered
Guide our Forces by Thy Hand,
Gallant blacks from far Jamaica,
Honduras and Togoland;
Protect them Lord in all their fights,
And, even more, protect the whites.
Think of what our Nation stands for,
Books from Boots and country lanes,
Free speech, free passes, class distinction,
Democracy and proper drains.
Lord, put beneath Thy special care
One-eighty-nine Cadogan Square.
Although dear Lord I am a sinner,
I have done no major crime;
Now I'll come to Evening Service
Whensoever I have the time.
So, Lord, reserve for me a crown.
And do not let my shares go down.
I will labour for Thy Kingdom,
Help our lads to win the war,
Send white flowers to the cowards
Join the Women's Army Corps,
Then wash the Steps around Thy Throne
In the Eternal Safety Zone.
Now I feel a little better,
What a treat to hear Thy word,
Where the bones of leading statesmen,
Have so often been interr'd.
And now, dear Lord, I cannot wait
Because I have a luncheon date.
